I got a response back from the people who are behind the film after filling out their web-based form yesterday. As far as they're concerned constraints are minimal. I suggested that we would want to move as quickly as is reasonable in order to get the conversation going before the school board's special committee is too far along. It seems like having a month is what we would need for promotions anyway, and Leah (the person who is doing the work) said February 12 (a month from today) is no problem.

I offered space that's both centrally located, likely available and cheap. I don't need to use that space, but it is available if the art theater is already booked or in some other way unavailable to us. I definitely think promoting this as widely as possible and showing it soon is important because I'm hoping it is possible to get in a conversation rolling rather than wait to react to the board's special committee.

I know that theoretically the art theater is available for rental, but I do not know what their schedule is. They have had numerous showings of other community based the films with a discussion following the screening. In my opinion, this would be ideal.

Finally, they are happy to provide advanced copies of the film to those people who have committed to showing it. So if we don't want to wait until the end of January to go to Indianapolis, we can pay the $350 and get a copy that we can view ahead of time. Of course this is a balance between our faith in its usability, and whatever budget we gather.

My update for now.

There are a couple friends who are at districts up north that have hosted this movie.
They are at Leyden and Elgin. They’re innovative administrators who are I think using the movie as part of their on-going discussion of change and keeping their schools innovative.

I think we should do it as part of CTRL-Shift so that we can keep that feel as well. We have been having lots of discussions. This film should be part of those on-going discussions.

Todd and I were just talking about this, as I happened to be at Kenwood observing this morning. It would be great if we could invite some business leaders, community leaders, school board members.

All this is to say, I’M GAME.

I have no problem footing a good chunk of that cost, but I would want the film to start a discussion, not end a discussion. :) For those that have been to the Co-op art theater, they sometimes have small discussions around a film (particularly before-hand); I am more interested in a provocative dialogue that stirs up action steps. My expectation is that the film addresses some issues that are relevant for our community, but we also have a myriad of other blessings and challenges as well.

Yes, it does look good.  Charles are you offering to host a screening?  It is only $350.

In all seriousness, I would be up for trying to put together a screening as a CTRL-Shift project...mainly because I need something else to do right now ;)

It would seem to be a perfect thing to end EdCampCU with, but that is coming up in just a few weeks.

Thoughts?

Any interest in the "Most likely to succeed" movie/documentary? Ted Dintersmith is at the helm, so it certainly has my attention.
