Charles,
Thanks for sharing. I wish this article said more about the process. What prompted the transformation? What conflicts did the students and teachers come across along the way? What are ongoing challenges, unlearning that will continue and community push-back?
I increasingly think that this kind of student and teacher ownership of learning is where we need to go. However, I think each place will have a different process for it that has to be precipitated by something - likely conflict of some kind. Risk-taking and tension will necessarily be part of that process and it's important to share about the discomfort along the way. If we do that, we bolster each other in having the courage to be the risk-takers we need.

Ran across a very interesting school that takes "student-centered approach" to the next level. For those of you experienced in the areas of education (and this obnoxious thing called Reality), how much of this Norwegian school's success is dependent on external factors (the town, the money available, the demographics, etc) versus the effort made by the administrators and faculty/staff?--Charles Schultz_______________________________________________
