Hi all,

I wanted to amend a fairly significant error of speech that I made Wednesday morning in referring to the press conference on diversity at the U of I. I mistakenly said that the total undergrad enrollment of African Americans at the U of I is approximately 380. This was a mistake. Project 500 in 1968 aimed to enroll that many freshmen students. They were successful. In 2014, the enrollment of freshmen African American students is 356 and the total percentage of African American students at the U of I is 4.87% and falling compared to an African American population in Illinois that is 14.2% of the total population.

Apologies for the misinformation!

Hi all,

Thanks for the conversation about testing, accountability, and community engagement this morning. I thought I'd share a short article that summarizes the points made at the press conference I mentioned. The report specifically looks at underrepresentation of African American undergrads and staff, trespassing violations by race on campus, and conditions in the Bruce D Nesbitt African American Cultural Center. I have a copy of their full report as well that I haven't gotten to read yet, if anyone is interested.
