This is wonderful except it is right on the Eve of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana.
If it is just me, I'll find another opportunity, but please double check.

There’s a few details to finalize, but it’s looking like there will be an orientation on the Teen Design Days for the DCEO grant team, folks at the Fab Lab, and anyone else interested Wednesday, September 24, at 6pm at GSLIS. this is early in Ann’s visit and would allow for scheduling of additional train-the-trainer meetings or even a teen design days based on the orientation.

Travis or I will pass on additional information as soon as the details are finalized.

That’s my break, can you include me in the details?  I would like to attend if possible.

I'm for it, in general.  That's actually the duration of Kenwood's intersession, so my scheduling will be on the easy-like.

Ann Bishop, professor emeritus with GSLIS, is now in Seattle and is working with Karen Fisher and her colleagues at the University of Washington on a very interesting program bringing together youth empowerment, especially for ethnic minorities, everyday life situations, information and technology, and design thinking. From the little I've heard about the program so far, there seems to be some interesting possibilities to inform our own work. Ann Bishop will be out here later this month and is interested in doing both Teen Design Days workshops through our community partners, and also  train-the-trainer sessions on the workshops so that we can adapt them to our own settings. Here's an email  thread related to her visit. Let me know if there's interest in participating.

thanks, sharon! visiting our project website might help people grasp what the workshops are like, give a sense of the bigger picture: http://infome.uw.edu/  i especially recommend the 7-min. video under the "About" link for that purpose.

it also strikes me that different CU groups might have quite different purposes for hosting/participating in youth design workshops. one group might see it as a way to acquaint youth with technology, another might see it as a way to build confidence and creativity, another might use it to introduce youth some tech careers, another might want to understand some youth behavior and preferences regarding info and tech, and another might want to actually design new systems, policies, and services. the youth design workshops can do all this at once, but the various groups might want more emphasis on one or the other. there is also the question of whether we just do train-the-trainer workshops as one-off events, or whether/how to proceed to actual youth design workshops. it might also be interesting to include some youth-leaders in the train-the-trainer workshops, so they can act as peer trainers?

i've got my flight tickets now (thanks, laeisha!). i arrive monday night, sept. 22 and leave early saturday morning, oct. 12.

Hello, Just checking in on Ann’s visit. I mentioned it at the MixITUp meeting last week and Joe Coyle  sent out a note about it…though I provided hardly any details! We just had our Dream Girls Academy board meeting. I mentioned that Ann would be in town and then sent the other members the attachments that indicate some of the content of the workshops. I wonder if any other groups are interested?

September is flying by….
